CD / DVD Litho Printing

CD / DVD Litho Printing printing will give high colour resolution and is ideal for photographic images within the artwork design. Disc Makers litho printing machines use CMYK plus White base, therefore giving the full colour range. With Litho you cannot create actual Pantone reference colours, as the colour is made from up from CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), and therefore litho print will never give a perfect match to a specific Pantone colour. Silk screen printing is used when actual Pantone colours are required.

For the best results from litho printing the artwork should be created in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator programs, and a high resolution file should be saved as CMYK at a minimum of 300 dpi. PDF or JPEG formats. Do not create or save your artwork file as RGB, as this will give an inferior colour representation of the design when litho printed.

The Litho (offset) process involves creating four plates (CMYK) from the original artwork, and then each litho plate is used to transfer an inked image onto a rubber blanket that has been mounted on a cylinder. The rubber blanket will then transfer the inked image onto the CD or DVD disc as it goes through the litho printing press and the four colours combine to give the perfect litho print image. To create white in the design a full colour white base is laid down first before the litho CMYK process takes place.

It is now possible to use the Litho process not only for replicated discs, but also CDRs and DVDs, therefore litho print gives the recordable disc that retail high quality look and feel.

Disc Makers can litho print the standard 5” (12cm) and 3” (8cm) CDs and DVDs from 100 units.
